Observe@UVA is a shadowing program designed to connect students with Charlottesville-area healthcare providers. Sessions take place each fall and spring semesters, and students may shadow up to 10 days per calendar year. This is an application-based program, as UVA Pre-Health Advising will match students with providers, so spots are limited for each semester!
Shadowing is important in your pre-health journey to understand different types of healthcare careers and the work that providers do on a daily basis. This can help to inform your decision as you purse a health profession.

“My experience with Observe allowed me to interact with several different dental professionals at the UVA dental clinic. This experience helped me better understand how dentistry functions in a hospital clinic as opposed to a private practice. I was exposed to several procedures that were new to me, which helped me realize the wide variety of things that a dentist can do for a patient.”

Shadowing opportunities occur each semester. Fall semester opportunities are limited to Second through Fourth Year students and Spring semester opportunties are limited to First through Third Year students.
