Jorge Piocuda

Associate Director, Science & Sustainability Career Community

At the UVA Career Center, Jorge serves as a Career Counselor and as the Associate Director for the Science & Sustainability Career Community, advising and supporting those students interested in creating a sustainable future and those students interested in careers in the Sciences.

Jorge joined the Career Center in January 2020, transitioning from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as an Assistant Director, advising students interested in careers in STEM & Health, for 3 ½ years. While at Kansas State University in pursuit of his Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology, Jorge realized that that career path was no longer what he wanted in life, and while in his quarter-life existential crisis, realized that his true passion was in working with students and helping them with their career goals and aspirations. Being the first in his family to attend and graduate college, he is dedicated to advising and working with first-generation students and students from underserved communities and populations and helping them navigate the road of higher education.

You can usually find Jorge wandering around Richmond taking pictures of murals or playing his banjo on the banks of the James River (weather permitting, of course).

Education:
B.S in Psychology, University of North Carolina at Pembroke
M.S. Psychology, focusing on Cognitive Psychology, Kansas State University
