Peace Corps Campus Recruiter
April first served as the Peace Corps Campus Recruiter in 2012-13, immediately following her Peace Corps service in Senegal (2010-12) where she worked as a Community Economic Development Volunteer, advising small business owners and artisans on marketing their products and teaching entrepreneurial skills to vocational students. She also co-founded an environmental education program for children in her community and participated in several girls-empowerment initiatives. During her time abroad, April stayed connected to her Charlottesville community by corresponding with a group of middle school French students at The Peabody School as part of the World Wise School initiative and maintaining a blog of her experiences for friends and family to read.
In 2018, April returned to the Career Center to serve as the Peace Corps Campus Recruiter once again and is part of the Public Service and Government Community. April enjoys advising students about the enriching volunteer opportunities that are available through this global government outreach program, working with faculty and staff to expose students to these opportunities, and collaborating with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers to share their experiences.
April earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from James Madison University, a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the UVA School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and a Master of Science in Health Sciences, with a concentration on Clinical Research Administration, from George Washington University. She enjoys knitting, practicing yoga, watching movies, hiking, and hanging out with her very old, but still adorable, Cavalier King Charles rescue dog.
