Is it numbers and figures you gravitate toward or do you enjoy leading others? Exploring opportunities in a corporate setting? The business community covers a lot of ground. Delve in to learn more about the opportunities within the business community.

We’ve combined these three communities to better serve students interested in these areas. While there are a vast array of companies and job functions that fall within this domain, much of the knowledge, preparation, and information - like recruiting timelines, On-Grounds Interviewing, and specialized interview processes are similar for all students interested in these industries. 


Appointments

Virtual Drop-In Hours: 12-4pm, Mondays*

*Virtual drop-in advising hours are now closed for Fall 2020 - Spring 2021.  Drop-in hours will resume in Fall 2021. Students are encouraged to make one-on-one appointments via Handshake

How to Access Virtual Drop-in Advising
  1. On the bottom right side of the screen, there is a rotunda icon with “Virtual Advising” or “Virtual Drop-ins” noted.
  2. Click on the icon and input your name and computing ID.
  3. Once submitted, you will be asked what specific drop-in hours you’re interested in and at that point, a live greeter will let you know if an advisor is immediately available, or if there is a queue.

Business is everywhere. From corporate to startup, bulge bracket to niche, consulting to non-profit. 

Industry Basics

Investigate various professions in the field of business and learn about differences in work environment, salary, and more. By digging deeper and researching the industry, you can identify many pathways to the world of business.

Virginia Alumni Mentoring Program (VAM)

Virginia Alumni Mentoring is a program that connects UVA students with alumni who have volunteered to provide insights about the process of choosing and starting a career in their field.  The program provides students and their alumni mentors a structured means of initiating a professional relationship to discuss career interests and professional preparation. Together, they develop goals for their regular meetings, during which the alumni mentors offer insights about their own undergraduate experiences, career progression and current work, in order to support mentees in navigating their own chosen career paths.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is an online networking tool.  Beyond connecting to other professionals in similar fields, LinkedIn is an invaluable tool for conducting research about specific occupations or industries.  You can also use LinkedIn to learn about UVA alumni and their destinations after graduation.  


Alumni Spotlight: Financial Analyst

David is an Equity Research Analyst with AllianceBernstein, an asset management firm based out of New York. Working within the healthcare sector, David analyzes publicly traded companies to determine their value before investing.

  • Hack.Cville - A local “clubhouse for creative entrepreneurship.” HC is a community of designers, programmers, makers, creatives, and the just plain curious. They connect passionate people of all skill levels to foster creative projects. They also provide resources and programming for their members.
