Apply to the EVMS  Biotechnology Master’s Program for this Fall 2018!

You are warmly welcome to come and visit  campus as your schedule allows to meet with  incredible students & faculty, sit in on a graduate student class, and learn about the cutting-edge research that goes on here at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Virginia everyday!

Lifang Yang, MD, Ph.D. is the assistant manager of the Biotechnology Master's Program - Contact her (yanglf@evms.edu) or  program manager Aurora Kerscher, PhD (kerschae@evms.edu) anytime if you have questions about the program or the application procedures.

The Biotechnology Master’s Program at EVMS is unique and features an accelerated 16-month curriculum. This integrative graduate program provides  students with multidisciplinary and applied research training in molecular and cellular biology, research design, laboratory management, and drug development.  A primary emphasis of the EVMS Biotechnology Master's Program is hands-on laboratory experience for students and exposure to advanced laboratory techniques such as EM and confocal microscopy, microarray analysis, proteomics, flow cytometry, animal handling, as well as familiarity with biostatistics and bioinformatics. These training modules are not offered in the other graduate programs at EVMS – and a unique feature compared to most Biotech Programs nationwide. Since class sizes are small, students are able to have one-on-one interactions with faculty that facilitates the learning process in ways that an on-line graduate program cannot.

The final phase of this program consists of 6 months of research internships to refine  newly acquired laboratory training and to provide students with “real” work experience. These opportunities will help strengthen resumes and connect to biotech companies.  These internships can be completed in an academic research laboratory or with one of EVMS 'biotechnology industry partners.
