Congressional Communications Intern Posting - Deadline: 8/20/18

Career Administrator

Congressmember Karen Bass, Second Vice-Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, is looking for a creative, highly motivated and solution-oriented communications intern to join her fast-paced, high-octane communications corps.

Primary responsibilities will include: drafting press statements, formatting press clippings, creating and updating press lists, curating social media content, graphic design and other communications-related projects. Our program is different from other offices on Capitol Hill as this program culminates in a capstone presentation for the Congressmember on an issue that you are passionate about. This allows you to explore an issue in a professional setting and discuss solutions with a Member of Congress. Candidates for this position should have strong written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. Ties to the 37th Congressional District and Spanish-speaking proficiency are plusses. Communications-related work experience is not mandatory but humor and initiative are absolute musts.

Applicants must be available to begin no later than September 7th and able to come in at least three full days per week. Availability will be factored into your acceptance. Please send a resume, a cover letter, two short writing samples, any graphic design samples you may have and your weekly availability to Nina.DeJonghe@mail.house.gov with the subject line “Communications Intern” by Friday, August 20th. We look forward to having you on our team!
