How to Submit a Personal Statement for Review

Claire Cornell

Reminder: Advisors do one review per applicant, per application cycle due to the high demand. We encourage you to submit a final draft rather than an early draft!

How to submit a draft:

  1. Ensure your draft is as error-free as possible and that it is a final draft!
  2. Ensure your Personal Statement is in Word Doc format when attaching it to an email
  3. Email it to
  4. Expect a review to be completed within 5-7 business days of submission

We encouraged all applicants to also make an appointment with the UVA Writing Center. Tutors at the writing center work one-on-one with students in 50-minute appointments. They can assist with drafting, revision, argument structure and other special concerns. Pre-Health Advisors are not writing or grammar experts, but understand the content and quality of personal statements that health professional schools are looking for!

*If you are part of the Advising Credential program, these are the same instructions you will follow to submit your Personal Statement draft for review. Your personal statement review should be as close to a final draft as possible. You will only receive one review.
