Are you looking for new ways to gain skills? Below are a number of certifications you can pursue that can help your resume stand out. These are a great way to spend your free time this summer! 

Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam

  • Details: New FINRA exam for prospective securities industry professionals
  • Benefit: help increase your marketability in the financial services industry
  • Prerequisites: Open to anyone 18 or older; association with a firm not required
  • Cost: $60

Certified Associate for Project Management (CAPM)

  • Details: CAPM designation is good for folks who wish to start a career in project management
  • Benefit: CAPM will enhance credibility and effectiveness working on or with project teams
  • Prerequisites: Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent); 23 hours of project management education completed by the time you sit for the exam; Project Management Basics online course fulfills this educational prerequisite
  • Cost: Member price $225; non-member price $300

Charted Financial Analyst (Level 1)

  • Details: CFA Level 1 designation provides you with the start on your journey toward becoming an investment professional
  • Benefit: will make your resume stand out for careers in investment analysis and portfolio management 
  • Prerequisites: Must be a final-year student in a bachelor’s program or have completed a bachelor’s program and received a degree from the university.
  • Cost: $2400-$4590 -- depending on fee deadline

  • Details: Google Skillshop provides several different certification routes: Google Ads, Google Marketing Platform, Google Analytics Academy, Google My Business, and Waze
  • Benefit: This platform will help you grow your skills on Google’s tools; these are particularly useful to know if you’re interested in digital marketing

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Certification

  • Details: Amazon has free entry-level certifications in a variety of areas including machine learning for developers, DevOps and more
  • Benefit: AWS is a widely used computing platform and can help your resume stand out
  • Prerequisites: None

Hubspot Certifications

  • Details: Hubspot provides various certifications on areas such as inbound marketing, social media strategy, content marketing and more. 
  • Benefit: These certifications can make you appealing for marketing positions as well as startups who need help growing their business.

Free Code Camp

  • Details: Teaches you the basics of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, GitHub and many more coding languages.
  • Benefit: There is a huge demand for coding skills; learning these skills will make you more employable for companies in need of them!

  • Details: Courses available in a wide-range of subject areas.
  • Benefit: Gain additional skills in a variety of areas from well-respected colleges and universities, without having to pay for college credit
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Cost: Varies, some are free and some require a fee

How to List Certifications on a Resume

  • Create section at bottom of resume -- label this something like “Certifications” or “Professional Training” 
  • List certifications in reverse chronological order
