What is Alpha Kappa Psi?
About Our Chapter:
We pride ourselves in our intellectual diversity -- having students from all backgrounds who are passionate about finance, technology, consulting, engineering, policy, and law. These unique perspectives allow us to learn and grow from each other in new ways, giving us an educational opportunity to learn across many disciplines. AKPsi at UVa focuses on creating a network of successful alumni in nearly every field, while also creating a tight-knit community at the University of Virginia of friends who want to see each other succeed. Many of our brothers go on to work for some of the top firms in their fields including McKinsey & Co., Facebook, Capital One, Evercore, J.P.MorganChase & Co., Deloitte, and Microsoft. We also have plenty of brothers with an entrepreneurial mindset that go on to create their companies of their own. One of our more recent notable alumni is Alexis Ohanian, the founder of Reddit.
One of the most distinguishing characteristics about AKPsi is the unique “Pay It Forward” nature of its pledging process. New members of the organization go through a fast-paced educational training program where they get a chance to try their hand at every aspect of business. Whether it be resume and memo writing, gaining consulting experience in a mock case competition, producing marketing material for a real company, or even learning how to pitch a stock, new brothers benefit from the mentorship of the brotherhood for the entirety of the process. Thus as brothers enter into their majors and into professional world, they are encouraged to give back by sharing the knowledge they acquired along the way with new members.
In addition to sharing recruiting opportunities and professional development experiences, the brotherhood also emphasizes the importance of building lasting friendships. AKPsi aims to be not only a network, but a group of friends first and foremost. The organization works together to host an annual dumpling eating contest benefiting Meals on Wheels, and features a unique volunteer opportunity each semester in our training program. Each year, the brotherhood also enjoys events that are UVA classics-- including The Foxfield Races, Rotunda Sing, and Cavalier football games.
