How to Navigate Handshake the Day-of a Virtual Event

On-Grounds Interviewing (OGI)

Jumpstart your career by participating in the University of Virginia’s On-Grounds Interview (OGI) Program!* Employers from all over the United States want to hire UVA students and they conduct interviews on Grounds to offer exciting internship opportunities.

In response to the COVID pandemic, companies will be virtually interviewing students for internships beginning on February 15, 2021. Most opportunities, connected to an interview schedule, will open in January and students will be able to apply for roles beginning on this date – companies will continue to post new roles throughout the Fall semester. Please be sure to check out Handshake for a current listing of available postings!

*Online OGI Orientation: To participate in OGI, you must complete the On-Grounds Interview Orientation survey and agree to all policies. Once completed, you will then gain access to the interview section of Handshake where you can browse and apply to OGI positions. Remember to abide by these policies throughout the year or you may be at risk of losing your On-Grounds Interviewing privileges. Please be sure to use your UVA email address when completing the orientation in Handshake. If you have questions about OGI policies during the recruiting season, you can find a copy of the guidelines on our website and we encourage you to set up a virtual appointment with one of our career counselors on Handshake.

Employer Information Sessions

Every year, the UVA Career Center facilitates Employer Information Sessions via Handshake.  Employer-led information sessions are a great way for you to explore various career paths and provide you with a unique opportunity to learn more about an industry. During these sessions, employers make presentations on topics that include the organization's culture, career opportunities/internship programs, and products or services.  Typically UVA students will have an opportunity to speak with the representatives (often recent UVA alumni) in small groups or individually before or after the presentation.

To learn about upcoming virtual Employer Information Sessions, login to Handshake and click on 'Events' and then 'Info Sessions'.
