Learn more about the UVA Career Center and Capital One's Propel Challenge below!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Students who participate in this VIRTUAL project-based learning challenge will learn the basics of business development and growth strategy, gain experience working on a real-world project, build connections with Capital One employees/mentors, and explore career paths at Capital One. Student participants do not need any background in business to participate!

How it Works –

Participants will join a cohort of 25-50 students eager to learn, develop business skills, and build relationships with each other. Students will be assigned a 5-student team and a Capital One coach to complete a business development challenge beginning Tuesday, December 7th (Student Orientation) and ending Friday, January 14th (Virtual Capstone Presentation).

Student teams will have the opportunity to work informally with their team members during the winter break on asynchronous skill modules and other project work in preparation to the formal challenge kickoff. Student teams will work on the challenge with their Capital One Coach between Monday, January 3rd and Friday, January 14th. Student teams will virtually present a final capstone presentation to a panel of Capital One judges on Friday, January 14th. Each team will receive feedback to support their learning and professional growth from their coach and the judges after the capstone presentations.

Challenge Prompt –

Recently, Capital One created a new team, Ventures Lending, focused on advancing socioeconomic mobility in underserved communities by closing gaps in equity and opportunity through investments in small businesses that are currently underserved by existing financial institutions. Under Ventures Lending, Capital One will directly lend to small businesses in underserved communities and, in addition, will connect these small businesses to wraparound services that meet their needs. The team is preparing to launch a pilot for the program in 2022. You will be working on a project to help drive this important initiative!
