What is the Fulbright Program?
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is designed for students who are passionate about giving back to communities abroad. The program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. According to the Fulbright website, “During their grant stay, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.” The program emphasizes community engagement and student empowerment. Through these interactions, the Fulbright Scholar will continually interact with their hosts and local communities to promote a wholesome atmosphere integrated with cultural understanding.
How do I get involved?
As part of the application process, a candidate will submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S. Grant provisions will vary by dates and countries, but more information about scholarship variation can be accessed here.
Selection is made on the basis of personal and academic achievement, as well as language preparation. A full list of qualifications can be found here.
