Business Community: New Year, New Faces

Jennifer Harvey – September 8th, 2017

We like to practice what we preach in the Business Community and take our own professional development seriously. This summer, Sara and Kelly, the OGs of the Business Community were promoted and started new roles in the office. While we are sad to see them go, we are happy for their growth and new contributions to the UVA Career Center. With their departure, we gained a new team member, Dillon Kuhn. Dillon joins us from the Employer Relations team and will focus his effort on entreprenuership and academic coursework. He brings a wealth of knowledge around recruitment and employer relationships. Scroll down for personal messages from new and old members of the Business Community team.

A BCOM Farewell from Sara Greene: Welcome back to Grounds! I hope you’ve had a productive summer, while allowing some time for rest and relaxation. As some of you may know, I’ve recently accepted a new position in the UVA Career Center as Associate Director of Employer Relations. While I am excited to take on this new challenge in the Career Center, I am sad to leave the Business Community. I have so enjoyed getting to know you through appointments, treks, programs, and drop ins – you are truly amazing students with a commitment to developing yourselves personally and professionally. My time with the Business Community gives me a fantastic base to continue to work on your behalf as I speak with companies interested in recruiting UVA students. Best of luck this year and please don’t hesitate to connect if I can be of help in my new role.

A BCOM Farewell from Kelly Kennedy: As some of you know, I have started a new position within the Career Center this past July, as Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives. In this role, I will lead the Virginia Alumni Mentoring Program, assist in developing a strategic plan for the Career Center and co-teach with our AVP Everette Fortner on some of his career courses (among some other projects). I very much enjoyed my experience with the Business Community and valued working so closely with such talented and passionate students.  Special thank you and shout out to my colleagues Sara Greene and Jenn Harvey,  it was an absolute joy to work with you and I already miss it. I will still be making appearances at our Newcomb Office hours each week and our Career Center events, and I hope to see some of you through those opportunities. Still happy to be a resource for you all, though I know you are in good hands – good luck this Fall and I hope to see you soon!

A BCOM Welcome from Dillon Kuhn: I'm a 2011 UVA grad and have been with the Career Center since August 2014, first managing the On-Grounds Interviewing Program and then the employer relations and outreach for our Career Communities. In my new role, I will serve as the Career Lead for Entrepreneurship and Business Programs. I am available to provide guidance, coaching and referrals if you have an interest in pursuing a job or internship with a start-up organization, creating your own venture or developing an entrepreneurial spirit. I will also be leading several of our experiential learning opportunities, including Commerce 1100 (a new business course for non-McIntire students) and the DC Business Lab (immersive experience in DC for students next held January 7-12, 2018).
