Join us Wednesday, April 4th from 5-7 pm in the Newcomb Ballroom as we welcome Dean Gates and UVA Alum Oris Stuart (Senior Vice President, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Office at the National Basketball Association) to have a critical conversation about the intersection of diversity and career. The VA-NC Alliance is hosting its annual undergraduate research symposium, March 23rd – 24th at Virginia Tech. This year’s theme is "Fostering Innovation and Excellence in STEM." I am writing to ask if you would encourage your STEM undergraduates to participate. Students may attend as an observer or a presenter. The Morven Summer Institute is an innovative summer program hosted at Morven Farm, an emerging landscape for interdisciplinary learning for the University of Virginia. At the Morven Summer Institute, undergraduate and graduate students with interests in sustainability, design, food systems, and ecology have the opportunity to escape traditional confines of the classroom while working on projects with real-world applications.
Participants may select one 3-credit course from either (or both) of the 10-day summer blocks.
Block A - May 21 - June 1

Over this January externship at New City Arts Initiative in Charlottesville, Virginia, I had the opportunity to learn more about how a non-profit arts organization is run. New City Arts Initiative is an amazing organization that links together art and community in ways I did not know possible. My name is Victoria Armstrong and I'm a UVA Career IDEAs Extern.
Though the duration of my externship was only three days, I learned a lot, not only about the roles of admissions team, but also about all that GWSPH has to offer students seeking a graduate degree in one of the 30+ programs offered. After obtaining unique insight into a school of public health, I am now more confident in my pursuit of a Masters in Public Health and a future career in the field. This winter I participated in a three-day job shadowing experience at the Partnership for Public Service through UVA’s Career IDEAs Externship Program. My name is Shivani Dimri, and I'm a UVA Career IDEAs Extern.
I externed for four days at the Georgia Conservancy, a member-supported environmental nonprofit in Atlanta, Georgia. During those four days, I learned about their sustainable growth initiatives, recreational trips, membership process, and outreach activities. My name is Anne Heyse, and I'm a UVA Career IDEAs Extern.
